Women Lead Durga Puja Preparations in Mhow Cantonment

Mhow: The spirit of festivity is alive in Mhow Cantonment as preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations enter their final stage. For the past one and a half months, a dedicated group of women from Bengali families with military backgrounds have been working tirelessly to ensure that the event is both traditional and vibrant.

Leading this effort are Taposhi Samanta, Manoshi Bose, Damayantee Mitra, and Anamika Samanta, who, along with many others, have shouldered the most crucial responsibilities of the festival. While Brigadier Anamitra Samanta and Group Captain Biswajit Bose have extended full support to the initiative, it is the women’s team that has been at the forefront of creativity and execution.

As part of the decorations, the group has hand-crafted nearly 400 paper plates, wall hangings, hand fans, mud pots, and bamboo utensils, each adorned with exquisite Bengali paintings that reflect the cultural richness of the community. Adding to the nostalgic charm, posters of classic Bengali films such as Baise Srabon, Belashuru, Chadmabeshi, Charulata, Shwet Patharer Fala, and Poroma will also be displayed during the festivities. Children will find delight in the exhibits of Sukumar Roy’s iconic cartoons, which continue to hold timeless appeal.

The five-day-long Durga Puja celebration is expected to draw hundreds of Bengali families from both military and civilian backgrounds in and around Mhow. Organizers say the event will not only be a religious observance but also a cultural gathering that highlights the heritage, art, and unity of the Bengali community in the cantonment.
