Governor awards PhD degrees at Ambedkar University convocation ceremony in Mhow

Mhow: Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangu Bhai Patel awarded Ph.D. degrees to 21 research scholars in the convocation ceremony of BR Ambedkar University of Social Sciences (BRAUSS) at Mhow on Sunday. Governor presided over and Justice (retired) Umesh Maheshwari was the chief guest. Special guest Harsh Chohan, the senior BJP leader did not attend the programme after arising of controversy of inviting him as a guest despite being a political person and awading him D.Litt. degree during model code of conduct in force.

After arriving at the BRAUSS campus, Governor first garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and then paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar by garlanding his grand statue at the premises. Thereafter, Governor Patel and faculty members reached the convocation ceremony venue in a procession.

Ceremony commenced with National Anthem, following which the university representative read annual report of university’s achievements in the last one year. Thereafter, the scholars of various disciplines were awarded with degrees.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Patel exhorted the scholars getting doctorate degrees for remembering that they must not forget the contribution of their parents, society and the nation. Giving the example of Shravan Kumar, he said that everybody has to payback in this world for all deeds and misdeeds.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Maheshwari gave references of religious texts and Dr Ambedkar’s writings to motivate the scholars for doing exemplary works in the society after getting a doctorate degree. He also asked them to use the knowledge that has been imparted by university in the interest of the society.

Registrar RK Baghel conducted the programme while Dean Dr Sunil Goyal proposed the vote of thanks. DAVV Vice Chancellor Dr Renu Jain was also present in the event.

Sharp opposition was noticed in the employees of the university regarding the convocation ceremony as none of the dignitaries mentioned even a word on Constitution Day today. Actually, BRAUSS has been established in the name of Indian Constitution’s architect Dr BR Ambedkar and as per the tradition of this university, convocation ceremony is organized on November 26, which is celebrated as Constitution Day in the country.

Parents and relatives of many research scholars who were awarded degrees today, had come from far off places and many of them had left their homes early morning to reach the university at the stipulated time of 9 AM. While talking to the media persons, some of thos parents said that there were no arrangements for food or snacks for them and the university staff kept telling them about making arrangement for their food. When they did not turn up till 1.15 PM, those persons left the campus. Actually, in all four convocation ceremonies that have been organized earlier, university used to make arrangements for lunch of relatives and family members of the scholars getting awards.
